Frequently Asked Questions
How are fees calculated, and who pays them?
Sellers pay nothing to list or sell. The buyer pays a fee only on a winning bid: 3% with standard checkout, or 5% with verified checkout (a $500 minimum applies to verified). Every fee is capped at $5,000, no matter how high the final price. The fee is authorized as a hold when you bid and captured only if you win.
What is verified checkout, and what does it include?
Verified checkout is our fully managed settlement option. The fee is 5% of the winning bid (minimum $500), and in return AuctionTimepieces handles escrow and the wire transfer between buyer and seller. With standard checkout you pay the lower 3% fee and arrange payment for the watch directly with the other party.
How does the authorization hold work?
When you place a bid, we authorize a temporary hold on your card for the buyer's fee — 3% with standard checkout or 5% with verified. If you're outbid, the hold is released right away. If you win, the hold becomes your fee. The price of the watch itself is never charged through us.
What's the difference between no reserve and reserve?
A reserve is a confidential minimum the seller is willing to accept. If bidding ends below the reserve, the watch isn't sold and the seller may relist. A no-reserve auction has no minimum — it sells to the highest bidder when time runs out, however high or low.
Can I retract a bid?
Bids are binding and cannot be retracted. Please bid carefully.
How does the giveaway and entry work?
Details about our launch giveaway will be announced soon. Check back here or sign up for updates so you don't miss it.
Is my serial number public?
No. If you provide a serial number when you submit a watch, we keep it private and use it only for internal verification. It is never shown on the public listing.
How do photos and authentication work?
Every submission needs at least 5 high-quality photos, and we encourage sellers to include the box, papers, and service history. Our team reviews each submission before it goes live. We recommend buyers study the photos and condition details closely and request any additional verification they need before bidding.
